As well as my 2 days spent in Bath (that blog is coming), I spent a few half days exploring surrounding areas. Hugo took me down many a narrow, hedge-lined lane, as well as on small highways, and some byways, too! I explored surrounding towns like the County “capital”, Taunton, the closest town, Williton , plus many tiny villages, medium towns and larger towns…..all of which there are many!
I also drove over (through? ) most of the Exmoor national park, a beautiful place of many breath taking views, across the Bristol Chanel to Wales, and up and down the beautiful coastline. Some of the roads in this part were quite steep, but nothing daunted Hugo! I even got to see some Exmoor ponies, which I first read of when I was about 9! (No photos of them, sorry)
Here are a mix of photos of my jaunts!
The photo with 2 rocks next to the road (1 taller than the other) is the border of Somerset and Devon. A very windy spot, with wonderful views.
One day, I travelled to the picturesque little village of Selworthy….complete with thatched cottages, an old and amazing church and a wonderful tea rooms.
I went on a 2 hour walk from Selworthy to Selworthy Beacon, atop a wonderful vantage point. I walked through a forest, past an ancient stone wall, past an even more ancient early Saxon Fort ruin, across a heather covered moor to finally arrive at the top! Wow! What a walk!
Who else would photograph a rather deserted looking Library??
It was such a cute little library, I even joined! š
